Local youth to participate in National Rodeo

Rattan Junior High school students, Clancy Teague and Jaylee Young, participated at the Oklahoma Junior High School State Finals Rodeo.
Clancy participated in Break-A-Way Roping, Team Roping, and Ribbon Roping (in which he and Jaylee were partners). Clancy finished fourth in the Break-A-Way Roping, fourth in the Team Roping, and fifth in the Ribbon Roping. He received a buckle for each event, along with prize money.
Jaylee competed in Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Break -Way Roping, and Ribbon Runner. Jaylee won the Oklahoma All-Around Junior High School Cowgirl, and Cowgirl Rookie of the Year. She also won the Pole Bending State Title, was named Reserve Grand Champion in Barrel Racing, finished third in Goat Tying, and placed fifth in both Break-A-Way and Ribbon Running. She received two certificates that will allow her to design her own custom made saddles, seven buckles and prize money.
Both qualified to move forward and participate in the Junior High School National Rodeo, which is being held June 24th through June 30th in Huron, South Dakota. Clancy qualified in Team Roping and Break-A-Way, while Jaylee qualified in Barrels, Poles and Goats. Each contestant will compete in two go arounds, for each qualified event, and will advance to the short go, which will be held on Saturday the 30th if they are placed in the top 20 of that event.
