Van Meter Furniture and Bedding, located at 210 North High Street in Antlers, is proudly celebrating 60 years of business!
Bob Van Meter attended Antlers High School where he worked on the annual staff as a Business Manager because his English Teacher, Mrs. Easton, saw the potential in him to make a great business man.
After graduating in 1954, Mr. Van Meter moved to Dallas, TX., where he worked until he had saved enough money to attend Tyler Commercial College and learn how to repair and work on TVs and radios. After college he moved back to Dallas and went to work for Texas Instruments for a few years.
Eventually Mr. Van Meter grew tired of Dallas and decided it was time to come back home and open a radio and TV shop in Antlers. On March 12th, 1961, he did just that. Later he added more appliances.
In 1964 he moved his business to the location we all know and love today on High Street in downtown Antlers. Later on Mr. Van Meter added furniture and bedding to the list of items he could assist customers with.
Now Van Meter Furniture and Bedding is the best place to buy furniture and bedding in the area, according to numerous years of being voted the Best of the Best in The Antlers American's Readers' Choice awards. Van Meter Furniture is a family owned and operated business where Bob works alongside his wife, Linda, and their son, Shannon.
Mr. Van Meter has been a member of the Pushmataha County Chamber of Commerce and the Main Street Project, where he has worked and donated items over the years to help the community, as he has done with so many of the local organizations.
